Organization
Peniel is a non-profit organization, which operates under a twelve
member policy making Board of Directors. The varied professions represented
by this group lend credibility and provide expertise to the organization.
Each member of the Board of Directors is active in their community.
The consumer population is represented by two of its members.
The Founding President, Dr. Marion Spellman, working in conjunction
with the Board of Directors interprets the policies and procedures.
She then distributes this information that it may be implemented by
the various departments: counseling, vocational, culinary and recreational.
A Director heads each department and is responsible for the daily operation
of their respective departments. Additional staff includes support personnel
at the administration office, e.g., public relations, fiscal management
and medical professionals. Peniel also provides consulting medical doctors
and psychologist from the local community.
The counseling department consists of a clinical supervisor and staff
who are identified as "addictions counselors." Peniel recruits
staff members who have a strong sense of commitment to
their personal responsibilities. Counselors model a lifestyle, which
is in dramatic
contrast to the client’s previous experience. Thus, the client
is able to witness first-hand on a day-to-day basis morality
and the importance of sanctity of the family. Counseling supervision
is provided
around–the-clock. In addition, counselors are required to attend
a minimum of six training sessions per year. These sessions
address pertinent data which keep the counselor updated on training
methodologies
in the area of substance abuse counseling.
